Altrusans Kick Off the New Altrusa Year!

Altrusa Club members and their guests enjoyed socializing at the beautiful home of our hosts, Judy and Warren Gooch, the evening of August 27, 2014. What a wonderful way to kick off another Altrusa year with great food and great company!

President Sandra Wessel made several announcements about what to expect in the coming year. Our first meeting is September 10th at noon at the Doubletree. The Program Committee has another year of fun, interesting and educational programs lined up for us. The Communications Committee demonstrated our new Altrusa International of Oak Ridge Club mobile app developed by Amanda Purdy, coming soon! Watch the Club newsletter for additional details.

Altrusa Club of Oak Ridge Awards Scholarships to Area Women

Altrusa Club of Oak Ridge awarded scholarships to area women at the annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon May 28, 2014. Three $1000 Sarah Ketron scholarships were awarded. Recipients were Sonya Ashford, Jennifer Dodgin and Yvette Satchel. Thanks to the generosity of the Pat Rush family, we were able to award a $1000 Pat Rush scholarship to Sierra Beatty. In addition, an Altrusa Scholarship of $500, with a matching scholarship of $500 from Roane State Community College, was awarded to Allison Henson. And, Altrusa Scholarships of $1000 were awarded to Hannah Massey and Kelsey Perkins. Scholarships are funded by the Altrusa Club Foundation by individual and Club donations, fundraisers and the Sarah Ketron endowment. District Four Conference News: Sweet Home Alabama!

The Altrusa District Four Conference was held in Troy, Alabama from April 10-12, 2014.Oak Ridge was well represented with five delegates: Michele Brandenburg, Janet Charles, Connie Larimer, Judy Trimble, Sandy Wessel and one alternate, Amanda Purdy. The Jack, Alabama hosts put on a great conference with good food and fun enteratinment.

We learned how to donate to our District Four Foundation through shopping at (select District Four Foundation). We also attended Technology and Award Nomination and Grant Writing Workhops. In addition, six of our members were recognized for sponsoring two new members! Congratulations also goes to Kay Brookshire who sponsored four new members and Michele Brandenburg who sponsored 14 new members since 2009!

Altrusa Provides Appreciation Breakfast at Oak Ridge Preschool

The Oak Ridge club provided an annual Appreciation Breakfast for Oak Ridge Preschool teachers and staff on April 29, 2014. Homemade goodies and drinks were served.
