Altrusans are always leading to a better community. Clubs throughout the world are working to make their communities a better place to live in.

Oak Ridge Club Service Projects


Altrusa awards scholarships to women in our community who desire to further their education, including the Sarah Ketron Memorial scholarship for re-entry women. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement and community servce activities. Planned activities, such as mentoring, continue to focus on re-etntry women. Altrusa of Oak Ridge offers an annual luncheon program to promote international friendship, communication and understanding.


Partnering with Girls, Inc. offering a program that invites girls into workplaces so they can explore career opportunities under the guidance of women mentors of diverse backgrounds and professions.

Altrusa leads a drive to provide each child in shelter and foster care with a brand new duffle-style bag, so that they will never have to move from one location to another with their personal items in trash bags. Karry4Kids Facebook Page

Provides opportunities for the membership and the community to increase their knowledge on a professional level by offering or attending workshops on various topics such as Leadership Oak Ridge and sponsoring an International Women's Day event.


Addressing literacy is the primary mission of Altrusa, working to change lives for a better future. Our main project is the annual Literacy Luncheon co-hosted with Breakfast Rotary. Proceeds from the luncheon fund grants awarded to Anderson and Roane County organizations actively addressing the problem of literacy.

Whether collecting and sharing books with needy libraries and schools or working on big literacy projects, Altrusa is a leading organization in addressing literacy needs.

Partners with the Oak Ridge Schools' Preschool, serving children considered at risk for learning, by volunteering, supporting school events and encouraging childhood literacy by providing a book for each child and Angel Tree gifts for several families in need.


Develops and manages community service projects, including providing literacy bags with books and activities for children at Methodist Medical Center waiting rooms; provides free books for clients of Free Medical Clinic; collects personal items for ADFAC clients and prepares school supply backpacks for children in need served by Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC).
